Marriage of Purpose and Romance

My wife and are heading into our anniversary weekend. We've typically enjoyed a quiet celebration of our marriage, but this year we wanted to create an event that would mark the significance of our union by planning something with a bit more flare.

We arranged for our children to be cared for and began to ask ourselves what our time should look like. Consequently, around the same time that we began to consider what to do with our time, we subtly sensed that we could be doing a better job at regularly living in a right and balanced fashion.

Faced with the desire to reevaluate, juxtapose the opportunity to engage freely for three solid days, we saw the stage being set. It was being set for a divine act, written by the best of playwrights. How better could we memorialize this significant date of valued union than to make it more significant and valuable in the coming years?

We came to rest on the idea that what was needed was to simply make our home our 'hub' and to enjoy local venues to supplement our relaxation, romance and purposeful conversations.

As I wrapped up an email asking friends to pray over our weekend and our reevaluation of many aspects of our lives, I realized the contrast to how we might have planned our time, missing this chance to reestablish our quality of living and purposes.

I hope that it is also your desire to pull the most out of everything God has given; not in an overly-intentional way that brings a heaviness to living, but in a way that reveals the deep satisfaction and joy in finding and living out God's designs. When we submit to His purposes for us, we lighten our load and have the freedom to embrace the small pleasures of life. I expect that my wife and I will relish many small pleasures in the coming days, and many more as a result of our investment.

To the degree that we live in submission and in agreement with God's designs in every element of our living and being, we will find the satisfaction that makes life truly cherished and valued.

Look around you and you will see that this is true.
